FACES for the Future at Detroit
Empowering Youth
In the summer of 2017, FACES partnered with Detroit’s Downtown Boxing Gym (DBG) and trained high school students who have an interest in the health professions to be peer health educators. These remarkable FACES Health Educators taught workshops to the DBG’s elementary school students about health topics relevant to the community like – infectious disease prevention, nutrition and diabetes, asthma and heart health. Check out our video highlighting the FACES program!
Moving Forward
FACES is working to launch a full implementation of the FACES for the Future program in Detroit. We look forward to effecting change and improving health outcomes in Detroit by providing students with the Four Core Components of our work:
- Health Careers Exploration through job shadowing and internships in hospitals, community clinics and other community based organizations
- Academic Enrichment including college preparation
- Wellness Support Services to ensure students are healthy, well and making good decisions
- Youth Leadership Development to activate young people in the community as peer health educators and health ambassador.
