On Saturday, November 15, 2014, Samuel Merritt University’s Physician Assistant (PA) program hosted The Great Gatsby Fundraiser Game Night, benefiting the FACES for the Future Coalition.
“We chose to partner with FACES because many of our classmates were mentors to the high school students last school year,” said Rochell Ermitanio, PA student. “Through this mentorship, we saw FACES’s impact on addressing upstream issues that help to reduce health disparities. Supporting an organization like FACES empowers high school students to pursue a career in health care, develop leadership and life skills, and expand their network and support group.”
The event was a huge success, with attendees representing various SMU programs, both students and faculty, and friends and family from the Bay Area. There were poker and blackjack tables, carnival-style games, silent auction prizes, a chance to win an iPad mini, and a “splash seat” featuring SMU staff and faculty. The event raised over $4,500.00.
