This webinar was the first of a three-part Global Health Pathway Series. In partnership with Global Health Fellows Program (GHFP) II, this series is a continuation of FACES’ efforts to create viable pathways into careers in health care, public health and behavioral health. Working with GHFP-II, these webinars are providing increased access to global health career options to those currently underrepresented in the field who can provide the global health workforce with resilient, multilingual and culturally responsive future employees.
During our first webinar, a total of 86 attendees joined in from all over California, from San Diego to Sacramento and we also had a handful from the East Coast. Most participants joined through watch parties held at their high schools – we had a total of five concurrent watch parties! Though she wasn’t able to be on the webinar, one of our panelists, Angelina Gordon with GHFP-II, gives advice from her perspective as an employer in the Global Health field to our audience specific to their education levels. Our other guest speaker, Tisa Barrios Wilson, shares her personal experiences abroad and how she used the competencies that we highlighted in our webinar.
“I enjoyed the personal stories from the webinar’s presenters and how they tied in necessary global health skills and competencies. It’s always great to hear how those actually influence your work in the field!” – Rae Spriggs, FACES San Diego 2013
Over 75% of our registered audience were minority students either in high school or early career professionals seeking advice on how to break in to the global health workforce!
