On March 23rd, 2016, our FACES Founding Director Dr. Tomás Magaña was invited as a keynote speaker at the Bright Young Minds (BYM) 3 Conference at Cal State East Bay.
The BYM 3 conference was held in order to engage conversation with youth whom are interested in pursuing work in public mental and behavioral health and primary care. The event involved exposing high school students from Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and San Francisco County school districts to inspirational speakers, mentors and health professionals through tabling and workshops. In attendance were 30 health professionals and mentors representing careers in counseling, psychology, social work, administration, primary care, fire-fighting, etc.
The goal of this conference was to allow students to learn about careers and options in the health field through interactive tabling and workshops, as well taught them to look at their own physical and mental wellness.
As the keynote speaker, Dr. Magaña was able to share his own lived experience to inspire students to both achieve and serve their communities through careers in healthcare.
BYM3 was presented by Alameda County Health Pipeline Partnership and was funded by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) Mini-Grant.
