“My name is Soknay Lim. I am currently a fifth-year undergraduate student at San Francisco State University with a major in Health Education and a minor in Holistic Health.
I was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. When I was eleven years old, my family and I immigrated to San Francisco for better opportunities. As a first generation college student, I was anxious about the future. I was not confident about life after college, but FACES assured me that I will make a great healthcare provider. FACES gave me a glimpse of the future. FACES Behavioral Health Undergraduate Summit showed me how valuable my immigrant background and skills are in health education toward the issue of mental health. Through FACES, I was able to learn about the different healthcare professionals that I never thought of and built real life connections. My professionalism and my love for healthcare grew even greater under the mentorship of FACES staff and guest speakers.
I thank FACES for teaching me compassion and kindness for people. I will continue to spread this compassion and kindness throughout my healthcare career. In the future, I hope to create an amazing program like FACES to assist youth in discovering their potential for a healthier society.”
