Sonam Chozom was born and raised in Ladakh, India, and moved to the United States at the age of 16. She went to Oakland Technical High School where she became part of the FACES for the Future Coalition, class of 2008. During her early high school days at Oakland Tech, FACES for the Future program not only ignited Sonam’s interest to pursue a career in the medical field, but it also instilled hope and aspiration to work towards a dream that can have an impact to uplift our community for better. Sonam is grateful to have met Dr. Magana during the FACES program since he was one of the mentors she looked up to and provided guidance and support throughout her journey. D Sonam graduated from Mills College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biopsychology. After a few gap years, she attended Samuel Merritt University for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program and graduated in 2019. During her time at Samuel Merritt, Sonam was able to connect with FACES again through the FACES/SMU mentorship program. It was a rewarding experience building close relationships with high school students and providing academic and professional guidance. Sonam hopes to continue to be part of FACES and is ready to contribute back to FACES to empower young kids in finding and fulfilling their dreams.
