FACES for the Future at Detroit
Working in partnership with Detroit’s Downtown Boxing Gym (DBG), FACES has trained high school students from DBG’s program who have an interest in the health professions to be peer health educators. These remarkable FACES Health Educators conduct presentations to the DBG’s elementary school students about various health topics relevant to their community.
FACES is working to launch a full implementation of FACES for the Future Detroit. We will capitalize on the momentum that has been generated by the peer health education project and engage with partners like Henry Ford Health System and Oakland University School of Medicine, who will hosting FACES Detroit students in clinical internship rotations.
We look forward to effecting change and improving health outcomes in Detroit by providing students with all of the four core components of our work: 1) health careers exploration and internship, 2) academic enrichment, 3) wellness support services and psychosocial intervention, in addition to 4) leadership development opportunities like peer health education training we have already done.
