College Students
College students are integral to the success of the
FACES Program, and play a variety of roles within it. The FACES Program
strives to provide support and assistance to disadvantaged college students
who wish to pursue a career in the health professions and/or desire to
help high school students achieve their dreams of working in the health
professions.
The success of the FACES educational pipeline is dependent upon the active
and continuous participation of college students from universities and
colleges in the Bay Area. The FACES Program partners primarily with the
Biology Scholars Program at the University of California, Berkeley, but
eagerly recruits and accepts the participation of college students from
other academic organizations and institutions.
For information on how you can participate with the
FACES program, please contact the program.
Components
FACES De-Cal Seminar
The FACES Program sponsors a seminar on the U.C Berkeley campus entitled,
Issues of Diversity in Health Care. Dr Tomás Magaña
is primarily responsible for directing this seminar. This seminar is open
to all college students interested in exploring issues relevant to working
with diverse communities in health care settings. Seminars are interactive
and designed to reflect on the personal experiences of caring for multicultural
communities. The seminar allows college students an opportunity to learn
from professionals working in various health care professions. Students
enrolled at U.C. Berkeley may receive academic credit for participating
in this seminar.
For information about the seminar, please contact the
Program Coordinator.
